Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwar Saheli said that parliament's Administration and Justice parliamentary Committee meeting on Wednesday focused on the issue of allowing Lebanese abroad to vote in the 2009 elections. "However, we did not reach a final result on whether they will be allowed to vote next year, or if it will be postponed until 2013," Saheli said.
After the meeting, Saheli said that everybody agreed on the new electoral law, which, he said, would be completed so long as no core problems were found. He added that the committee would send the law to Speaker Nabih Berri, once it was finished.
Saheli also said that there were some technical problems that could delay the clause allowing Lebanese abroad to vote, even though "all political parties want their supporters abroad to vote."
Saheli said that he believed it would be impossible to hold the 2009 parliamentary elections in a single day, though, he said, he was still waiting for a response from the Defense Ministry on whether a single day of voting was feasible.
