Berri: Next dialogue session scheduled for November 5 to allow reconciliation
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 19-9-2008
After meeting with President Michel Suleiman on Friday, Speaker Nabih Berri said the two had talked about Suleiman coming visit to the United States and the United Nations.
Baabda predicted that Lebanon's security situation would improve because of political developments.
"I am ready to do what is required of me because I support all reconciliations in Lebanon," he said.
Berri said that the country's political parties had agreed, with the help of the army, to remove all political posters and banners.
"The Future Movement asked for more time, and we are still waiting," Berri said.
Berri said he was ready to make further efforts to foster reconciliation, adding that in Beirut, "we should begin the process at the highest level."
Berri said that the second session of the national dialogue had been rescheduled to November 5 to allow reconciliation efforts to develop because "here we are again facing sporadic tension."
He said he hoped that the parliament would approve a new electoral law before October. He said that that the chairmen of parliament's Administration and Justice Committee, MP Robert Ghanem, had promised to submit a draft law by the end of September.
"Expanding participation in national dialogue is up to those seated around the dialogue table, and not up to me," Berri said.
