BEIRUT: Senior Shiite cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah said Thursday that any military attack on Iran could generate a "global catastrophe." Speaking during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Rida Shibani, Fadlallah also stressed the need to monitor "Israeli" activities in the Caucasus, an area that constitutes a possible "Israeli" base to launch assaults against Iran.
"Threats by the United States to inflict more sanctions on Iran regarding her peaceful nuclear project failed, thus forcing American and European individuals to seek alternative negotiation strategies," Fadlallah added.
The senior cleric also called for greater collaboration between Arab countries and Iran, especially in scientific fields, underlining what he called Iran's "successful" political and diplomatic policies.
"The successful Iranian experience should set an example for Muslims and Arabs and can be invested to support the Palestinian cause," Fadlallah added.
Fadlallah also stressed the influential role of Islamic countries like Iran and Egypt in promoting Muslim unity.
