Karami: Geagea΄s apology proves that he is a killer
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 22-9-2008
Former Prime Minister Omar Karami said that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea's apology for LF abuses during the civil war, in a speech on Sunday, was important because it proved that "proved that Geagea is a killer, criminal and liar because he previously announced that the Syrian regime was responsible for all the crimes."
After meeting with British Ambassador Frances Mary Guy on Monday, Karami said that Geagea was trying to stimulate public opinion for electoral purposes and that the honorable people of Lebanon did not believe what he said.
Karami said the rally at which Geagea gave his speech did not exceed 5000 persons. He said that Geagea was not interested in reconciliation and wanted only to impose himself by force.
On other matters, Karami said that the conflicts in Tripoli were numerous, but that the recent reconciliation had surprised everyone with its speed and success.
However, Karami called on cabinet to pay close attention to the northern city and to make sure that development projects to alleviate poverty were on track. Karami said that reconciliation helped improve security, but added that there were still other controversial issues that needed to be discussed as well.
Karami said that some people in Tripoli were still walking around with guns, and he warned that political disagreements could still explode into violent clashes.
Karami said that while he was not optimistic, he hoped that the national dialogue would have a positive outcome.
