Berri Calls for General Parliament Session Saturday
Source: Al-Manar TV, 24-9-2008
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called on Parliament to convene on Saturday, Sept. 27 for a general session to discuss and ratify a number of draft laws, including the electoral law.
Berri earlier told Lebanese daily An-Nahar that the session during which the electoral districting would be adopted will be held prior to the Fitr holiday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. "This is what I promised Lebanese of and I will fulfill my promises," he noted.
Berri was also quoted by Lebanese daily As-Safir as saying that he's committed to his promises in compliance with the minimum level of the legislative authority's credibility.
Answering a question on whether it was possible to say that the electoral law would be the feast's gift, Berri said that "if the electoral law was issued on the basis of "relativity" and Lebanon was made one single constituency or issued on the basis of provinces, it would be a gift. But the actual law of 1960 is not what we aspire to."
