26-12-2008
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the Doha agreement has ended the page of begging on the United States from the part of some Lebanese, noting that the mentioned agreement has achieved major victories for the national opposition.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony in the southern suburb of Beirut, Sheikh Qassem recalled of the achievements made in Lebanon following the Doha agreement. "A consensus president was elected, a national-unity government was formed, an electoral law was reached and electoral competence has been launched," his eminence emphasized.
Sheikh Qassem stressed that Lebanon entered, following the Doha agreement, a new stage in its history, different from all previous ones. "Now, we can say that the door was closed against three difficult and complicated years which started with the unfortunate international resolution 1559," his eminence pointed out, calling to distinguish between two completely different phases: pre- and post- Doha agreement.
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General reiterated that consensus was a necessity in Lebanon given the complications of the country that suffers from sectarian fanaticism. His eminence stressed that agreement was the only means to safeguards constitutional organizations and keep them away from accusations of bias.
"Seeking consensus is aimed at preventing mutual doubts and suspicions and assuring people with fruitful steps," Sheikh Qassem said, expressing hope that everyone would maintain an appropriate standard in political speeches and safeguard the current reconciliations and calm stage, recalling that political difference was natural away of accusations and insults.
Sheikh Qassem concluded by affirming that the "Israeli" threats don't frighten the Resistance party, emphasizing that the threats were merely electoral. "Our position is very relaxed at all levels," Sheikh Qassem said, adding that Hizbullah doesn't feel worried at all.
