Iran Reaffirms Red Lines: Zero Enrichment, Defense & Regional Influence Non-Negotiable

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, reaffirmed to Parliament that zero-uranium enrichment, Iran’s defense capabilities and its regional influence remain firm red lines and are non-negotiable.
Takht-Ravanchi provided a detailed briefing to the Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy on Sunday, following the third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States held a day earlier in Muscat, Oman.
The latest discussions were led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff. Technical-level talks also took place earlier in the day, with Michael Anton, head of policy planning at the State Department, leading the US expert delegation, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Ministers Kazem Gharibabadi and Takht-Ravanchi representing Tehran.
According to Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the parliamentary committee, Takht-Ravanchi emphasized that the negotiations have strictly focused on nuclear issues and have not touched Iran’s red lines. He clarified that Saturday’s talks centered on building confidence in the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of all sanctions.
The parliamentary session underlined that oil, petrochemical, gas, shipping, financial, and banking sanctions must be completely lifted, and Iran’s overseas assets must be released. Lawmakers also stressed the removal of all trade, industrial, mining, transportation and insurance restrictions, alongside the lifting of sanctions on institutions and individuals.
Takht-Ravanchi reiterated the necessity of closing Iran’s nuclear case at both the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors.
Parliament expressed its full support for any measures that uphold Iran’s national interests, security, and dignity, emphasizing that the talks must produce guarantees protecting Iran’s sovereignty and future stability.
Rezaei also highlighted that if the snapback mechanism—which allows the reimposition of UN sanctions suspended under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA]—is triggered, Iran would activate its own countermeasures, including possible withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty [NPT].
Furthermore, Takht-Ravanchi stressed the importance of deepening strategic relations with China and Russia. He called for the rapid ratification of a strategic partnership treaty with Russia, reinforcing cooperation across various sectors.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a comprehensive twenty-year strategic partnership agreement with Iran, covering defense, trade, energy, transportation, agriculture, finance, technology and culture, further solidifying long-term collaboration between the two countries.
