Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Sunday that Hizbullah`s missiles can reach any spot in occupied Palestine. In an interview with al-Jazeera TV Channel to be aired on Monday and Tuesday, Sayyed Nasrallah said, "In July and August (2006), there was no place in occupied Palestine which was out of the reach of the resistance missiles. Tel Aviv or elsewhere, we were certain that we could reach any corner or spot in occupied Palestine and now we are certain that we can reach them." "When the confrontation first took place, we were assuming that is was a normal retaliation to the capturing of the "Israeli" soldiers, but at night, when the "Israeli" government took its decision, we declared general alert and every human and material capability available to Hizbullah was put at the disposal of the battle. When the 48 hour truce agreement that took place in Beirut, we did not fire rocket, but when the truce ended, we fire 4000 rockets in a very short time. The "Israeli"s could not grasp the resistance`s level of control and management and wondered saying: was Hizbullah really capable of controlling all its forces in the south and the Western Bekaa for 48 hours?
Sayyed Nasrallah touched on the targeting and destruction of the
"Israeli" warship "Sa`ar 5" on the second day of the aggression. He said that the decision that was taken on that day was to use this particular weapon, which was part of Hizbullah`s secret weapons which the "Israelis" knew nothing about. His eminence stressed those who carried out the attack were Lebanese engineers in the Islamic Resistance. "We took the decision and the fighters were ready and so were their weapons. The crew that fired the rocket was also ready and they all headed to a certain point on the shore line facing the "Israeli" battleship and then they gave us a signal that they had the warship in firing range. I consider this as one of the many triumphs, that a Lebanese experienced crew fires for the first time at a battleship under the hard circumstances of the war, and hit it with the very first rocket. This is unusual in all military schools. There are two trends who explained this, one that says that it was an outcry and the other says that there had been some kind of care, as Almighty Allah says in the holy Koran, (So you did not slay them, but it was Allah Who slew them, and you did not smite when you smote (the enemy), but it was Allah Who smote.)"
On the possibility that Syria the war Sayyed Nasrallah said that keeping the war within Lebanon meant that it would be kept under control, and an expansion of the war in the region would have been unlimited with unknown consequences. "What I certainly know is that Syria informed "Israel" through mediators that in case of a ground advance in the Arqoub region towards Hasbayya - Rashayya near the eastern mountain chain, constitutes a security threat to Damascus, adding that Syria will take action and join the battle to defend itself."
Hizbullah`s Secretary General said that the Islamic Resistance`s capability to hit all targets in northern occupied Palestine, Haifa and what`s after Haifa, and the continuation of this capability until the very last day of the war, constitutes a major power factor for Hizbullah. He signaled that the "Israeli" air force had failed to prevent resistance fighters from launching rockets until the last day of the war. "When we said that we would target Tel Aviv should Beirut be bombed, we were serious about it. Of course it was Tel Aviv and even what`s after Tel Aviv. During the war, there was no place in occupied Palestine out of the range of our missile, Tel Aviv and other that Tel Aviv."
In the second part of his interview with Al-Jazeera satellite channel, Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah said Hizbullah and the Amal Movement were the parties which demanded that the army be deployed in south Lebanon during the war last summer, while the ruling bloc only sought to deploy international forces under chapter seven of the UN charter, "because they do not trust our national army."
"House Speaker Nabih Berri proposed and promoted an idea and we accepted it. The notion was to let the Lebanese army control the border and we said that would hand over our positions to the army. As for the UNIFIL, we said that we have no problem in consolidating it. Therefore, the proposal to send the army to the south and the consolidation of the UNIFIL was our proposal. However, the other camp`s proposal was sending an international force to the south (of the Litani River) under chapter seven of the UN charter. They argued that the Lebanese army was already north of the Litani River and that the international force would assume the mission of training and reconstructing it, hence this military institution is not trustworthy," Sayyed Nasrallah said.
His eminence challenged the ruling bloc to bring out the cabinet`s records on the seven points of Fouad Saniora and announced that mediators from the ruling bloc had told Hizbullah that the 14th of August was the date set only to end hostilities, but not for the return of the displaced to their villages.
"People assigned by the Lebanese government officially told us that the displaced families cannot return to their villages because the "Israeli" can take any action, since what's taking place was an end to hostilities and not a ceasefire. They frankly told us that the displaced families will remain outside their villages until the outstanding points pertaining to the southern part of the Litani River and the arms of the resistance are settled. Nevertheless, the people`s response to return to their villages on August 14 was great, "Hizbullah`s chief said.
On the ongoing crisis is Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah stressed the only exit is by forming a national unity government.
"I find the positions made by politicians in the media very weird. I tell them that we don`t want to be part of the government. I don`t want to have a Hizbullah minister in the government...I don`t want to name anyone. They accuse me of wanting to control the government, of wanting to create the (Wilayat al-Faqih) state, of wanting to monopolize the political decision in the country...I`m only asking for a national unity government free from Hizbullah. I also don`t want to interfere in the names of the candidates. There is the ruling bloc and there is the opposition, let them form a national unity government free from Hizbullah ministers, and we will give it the vote of confidence, defend it and back it. Then they accuse me of wanting to control the government. The solution is in the hands of the other camp, that is forming a national unity government," Sayyed Nasrallah said adding that the options of having two governments or a caretaker government are being studied. The Hizbullah Secretary General said that targeting the UNFIL in south Lebanon was in the interest of "Israel", through transforming it into a force under chapter seven of the UN charter on the one hand and on the other hand, in case the enemy wants to launch a new war, then getting UN forces out of the south would be in "Israel"`s interest so as not to be embarrassed.
