The arrest of retired Brigadier General Adib Alam in Beirut's Dekwaneh district under suspicion he was collaborating with the "Israeli" Secret Service, the Mossad, is still prompting negative reactions here and there.

In the meantime, investigations with the alleged agent were still ongoing amid expectations that they would be finalized during the few coming days. According to press reports, the Internal Security Forces General Directorate is expected to announce detailed information concerning the role he played in spying for the Zionist entity, given that he might be a member of a large intelligence agency working in Lebanon since a few years.

Lebanese daily As-Safir quoted a security source as saying that Adib Alam was a "historical agent," noting that he has admitted that he started working with the Mossad since 1994, saying his role was to collect information. The retired brigadier general, however, denied his involvement in carrying out any assassination or bombing attacks, but confessed to meeting "Israeli" officials in Europe.

The source emphasized that he was able to submit the whole archive of the Lebanese State to the "Israelis", due to his position within the Security Forces. Moreover, the source pointed out that "most probably, he accomplished this mission."

Adib Alam used to work for the Director General of the Public Security before he retired in 1998 to run his own maids service office in Dekwaneh. A senior security official said that the retired general used his office as cover-up of his "intelligence mission."
