HDC: Lebanon to Prevent Arms Smuggling, to Face Terrorism

Lebanese Higher Defense Council's meeting to discuss information over the
presence of members of al-Qaeda in Lebanon stressed Thursday the need to prevent arms smuggling across the borders with Syria.
Convened under President Michel Suleiman at Baabda Palace Thursday, the council stressed on facing terrorism and to implement coordination between security apparatuses.
The government asked the Higher Defense Council Wednesday to convene to discuss the latest information that Minister of Defense Fayez Ghosn mentioned regarding the infiltration of al-Qaeda members from Lebanon to Syria.
"The government recommended that security forces and the army preserve the borders and called on the Higher Defense Council to convene, which might take place tomorrow over the presence of al-Qaeda," Information Minister Walid Daouk briefed reporters after the last session for 2011 at Baabda Palace Wednesday.
