Al-Arabia: Military Coup against Qatari Emir Failed
The Saudi "al-Arabia" channel reported Tuesday that a military coup has been staged against the regime of the Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani with no success.

According to the report that was eliminated four minutes after its broadcast, "a number of high-ranking military officers-led by Major General Hamad Bin Ali al-Atia- rose against the Qatari Emir."
"The coup triggered fierce clashes between some 30 military officers and US-backed royal guards outside the Emir's palace," the channel added.
The coup was foiled following the arrest of the officers involved in the effort.
The news came amid Qatari - Saudi disputes on a number of political issues in the region, and after the last year coup by the leaders of the military establishment- who expressed disappointment over the policy of their Prince- failed.
30 army members, including five of the Emiri Guard were arrested and a number officers and elders of al-Thani family were set under house arrest after the failed coup.
It is worth mentioning that the Qatari Emir came to power following a US-backed coup against his father in 1995.
