Iraqi Army Kills ’Daesh’ Deputy Chief in Tal Afar
Local Editor
Iraqi armed forces have reportedly killed deputy commander of the so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] extremist group during an operation in Iraq on Friday.
The Iraqi Intelligence Ministry said on Friday that Fazel Abdullah al-Hiyali, also known as Abu Moslem Turkmani, was killed during the Iraqi army operation against the Tal Afar airport in the northern province of Nineveh.
The Iraqi Defense Ministry also said on Thursday that the extremist group's second-in-command, a man identified as Abu Hajar al-Souri, was killed in an airstrike in the city of Mosul.
The Iraqi intelligence has also confirmed the death of the head of the ISIL military council in the city of Tal Afar, Abu Alaa al-Iraqi, in an airstrike in the provincial capital.
Iraq has been fighting the ISIL extremists since they took control of Mosul on June 10. The takeover was followed by the fall of the city of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers [87 miles] northwest of the capital Baghdad. The control of Tikrit was later retaken by the Iraqi army.
The ISIL militants have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including the mass execution of civilians and Iraqi security forces.
