The so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] militants executed a cameraman who works for an Iraqi television and three of his relatives in Iraq's central province of Salahudin on Friday, a provincial police source said.
Raad al-Azzawi, a cameraman for local news Sama Salahudin satellite channel, was kidnapped about a month ago with his brother and two relatives by the ISIL militants for alleged collaboration with Iraqi security forces, the source said on condition of anonymity.
The Daesh militants control large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria after rapid advances in the summer [2014]. Daesh sent its militants into Iraq in June, quickly seizing large swaths of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.
While the United States launched air strikes on Daesh targets in Iraq in August and has since widened them to Syria, some countries have since criticized the air strikes on both countries.
