Police officials in Diyala province said on Monday that Iraqi forces entered the towns of Saadiya and Julala late Sunday after fierce clashes with fighters from so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"].

The Iraqi army liberated the town of Jalawla in Diyala province, inflicting heavy losses upon the militants of the Takfiri group.

Dozens of terrorists were killed and injured in the clashes that led to the regaining of the town, sources said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Iraqi army also launched a military operation to retake the town of Jalawla, along with Saadiyah, which lie in the eastern Diyala province in Iraq.

The Iraqi army soldiers have been trying to recapture both towns from "Daesh", which also operates in Syria, since the militants overran them in August.
