Hamas dismisses Abbas-"Israel" talks
Source: alalam.ir, 15-03-2008
GAZA CITY-A Palestinian official has dismissed the trilateral talks of the Palestinian Authority with the "Israeli" occupying regime and the US held Friday in the occupied West Bank as another 'atrocity' against the Palestinian nation.
The head of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas' Political Relations office, Ali Barakah made the remarks to Alalam on Saturday.
The official deplored the participation of Palestinian Authority as a crime against Palestinians saying that the Authority is covering up "Israeli" regime's aggression by its presence at this talks at a time when "Israeli" army is stepping up its attacks in the occupied territories.
"Israeli" occupying regime and the Palestinian Authority on Friday resumed high-level talks at the presence of a US envoy, after a two-week hiatus.
The meeting, to discuss implementation of the stalled 2003 roadmap, was the first at senior level since Palestinian Authority chief Mahmud Abbas suspended talks on March 2 to protest "Israel's" incursion of the Gaza Strip.
Zionist war minister Ehud Barak did not attend, but sent an aide to the talks with Palestinian Interim Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and US Lieutenant General William Fraser, who was appointed in January to oversee compliance with the roadmap.
Barkah made a swipe at the Palestinian Authority for reneging on its promise to put a halt to such meeting over continued "Israeli" raids into the costal Palestinian enclave.
The Hamas official also said: "The three-way meeting points to the fact that the US aims to undermine anti-"Israeli" resistance by plans such as the roadmap and Annapolis conference," which was held in November in the US.
He said the three parties to the Friday talks make security coordination to stifle the resistance, "but the resistance will continue despite their efforts."
After "Israelis" failed in their raids into the Gaza Strip, the US considered blowing a fresh life into the moribund roadmap and the Annapolis conference, so they planned an "Israeli"-Palestinian meeting, with boosting anti-resistance coordination in sight.
Drafted by the US, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations, the roadmap calls for a halt to Jewish settlement activities in Palestinian territories.
The plan has made scant progress, but "Israel" and the Palestinians agreed in November to relaunch it during the Annapolis conference in the US.
The Hamas official said such meetings would only serve the "Israelis" interests, without having benefits for Palestinians.
