"Israeli" concern about ability of West Bank resistance to launch attacks
Source: PIC, 17-03-2008
OCCUPIED ‘JERUSALEM' (AL-QUDS)- "Israeli" security sources expressed its fears that the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank especially the armed wing of Hamas would be able to launch a big attack in the coming weeks on "Israeli" areas.
The sources explained that Hamas is trying hard to strengthen their presence in all areas of the occupied West Bank, despite the ongoing joint campaign waged by the PA and "Israeli" security apparatuses against its fighters.
"The calm we see now in the West Bank is deceptive because inside the Palestinian cities, there are, all the time, attempts to organize the ranks and carry out attacks against "Israeli" targets.
In another context, a senior officer in the "Israeli" air force expressed his fears in a press release to the website of the "Israeli" Yediot Ahronot newspaper that the potential risks which threaten "Israeli" military aircrafts flying over Gaza could rise after Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, managed to hit an "Israeli" helicopter last week for the first time since 1967.
The newspaper also quoted a senior Hamas leader as saying that the aim of targeting "Israeli" warplanes is to bring down a plane with the pilot because taking the pilot as a prisoner could help increase the chances of pressuring "Israel" to release Palestinian prisoners in any future swap deal.
