Contra Magazin asserted that the United States leadership has been annoyed and angered by Russia's achievements in its counterterrorism efforts in Syria, since Washington is backing several militant groups which are fighting to oust Bashar al-Assad.
The US government and intelligence services "trained, armed and provided military support" to al-Nusra, the Free Syrian Army and other militants to "destabilize or overthrow the government in Syria," the Austrian media outlet added.
According to the publication, this is the true goal of Washington's campaign allegedly aimed at destroying the "ISIS" but to cover it up the US launched a massive media campaign to demonize Moscow. Contra Magazin dismissed such claims as "pure nonsense" since Russia "is the only country which the Syrians formally approached to fight terrorism."
Moscow came to rescue as fast as possible. It took Russia only four days to transport fighter jets, helicopters and personnel to a base in Syria and launch airstrikes against ISIS targets, the media outlet explained.
"Within three weeks ISIS was crushed. The ongoing bombing campaign is aimed at getting rid of militants in coastal areas. Russia and Syria can now ... hold talks with opposition groups and call an international conference. The US is fuming," Contra Magazin noted.
The media outlet added that Putin, unlike Obama, improved his image by adhering to diplomacy and political veracity.
