The larger attack in Muqdadiyah, 80 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, killed six local commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces who were attending funeral in the place, and wounded 58 others.

Relatively, "ISIS" terrorist group claimed responsibility for the blast, according to a statement posted on the site monitoring the group's Twitter account.

A separate attack on the western Baghdad outskirts of Abu Ghraib followed an offensive by "ISIS" militants on army positions in the same area Sunday which left 24 people dead but was eventually repelled by counterterrorism forces.

Monday's blasts follow the deadliest bombing inside the capital so far this year, which killed 78 people on Sunday.

The country is currently witnessing a surge of violence since "ISIS" took over areas of Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014.

According to the United Nations, over 22,300 people were either killed or injured across Iraq in 2015.
