In an interview with AKI, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa denied the failure of the Arab initiative.
"The initiative of the Arab League has not failed yet, but we should bear in mind that the political problem in Lebanon is serious," Moussa said, adding that the difficulty is not exclusive to the Lebanese, but involves Arab, regional and international dimensions, which collectively contribute to the complexity of the Lebanese crisis.
Moussa emphasized that the Arab initiative had made notable progress by encouraging the Lebanese to agree on a consensual candidate for presidency, the formation of a national-unity government and the drafting of a new electoral law.
"The solution will be conditional on the agreement of the differing Lebanese to find a common ground to save their country from the vicious circle," Moussa said.
