AL-QUDS--The "Israeli" military says two "Israeli" security guards have been killed in a suspected attack by a Palestinian fighter near the West Bank town of Tulkarem.
There were no other casualties reported, and no group immediately claimed responsibility.
Police said the two "Israeli" in their 50s were killed in the settlement of Nitzanei Oz near, which is across the border from the town of Tulkarem on the "Israeli"-occupied West Bank.
Searches were under way around the Nitzanei Oz industrial zone on suspicion the assailant may have been a Palestinian resistance fighter, but authorities were not ruling out a criminal motive, "Israel" Radio reported.
There have been few shooting attacks in the area in recent years, but the "Israeli" regime has repeatedly said Abbas' government is not yet capable of controlling activists in the territory.
The incident came as the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas proposed a six-month truce between the "Israeli" occupying regime and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with an option to extend it to include Palestinians in the West Bank.
Palestinian former foreign minister Mahmoud al-Zahar, speaking in Cairo after meeting Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman on Thursday, said the truce must include an end to the "Israeli" blockade of the coastal strip.
Reading from a prepared statement, Zahar said: "The movement agrees to a truce in the Gaza Strip .... fixed at six months, during which period Egypt will work to extend the truce to the West Bank."
