US Senator Responds to Biden: ’America Is Not Racist’

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott delivered on Wednesday the Republican response to a keynote speech by US President Joe Biden at the Congress.
In his speech, Scott lashed out at Biden's “empty platitudes” on unity and rejected the notion of the US as a fundamentally racist nation.
He slammed the Democratic party for blocking the GOP police reform proposal and efforts to impact the COVID-19 coronavirus spending bill, as well as other spending initiatives.
The senator also ripped into Biden's recent remarks accusing America of systematic racism, rejecting this notion.
"America is not a racist country," he said. "It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different discrimination."
"And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present," he added, accusing Democrats of using race issues as a political weapon.
The address followed Biden's own speech, where he hailed the vaccination drive in the country and highlighted the Democratic spending proposals.
