Head of the Democratic gathering MP Walid Jumblatt visited Damascus on Thursday afternoon, where he met Syrian president assistant General Mohammad Nassif in a meeting exceeding three hours.

The meeting covered the internal situation in Lebanon and the region.
According to informed sources, Jumblatt's unexpected visit to Damascus comes in the field of promoting the Lebanese-Syrian coherence in confronting "Israel's" threats against the two countries.

Political sources clarified that Jumblatt's visit, which was accompanied by public work and transportation minister Ghazi Al Aridi, was successful and positive, especially that it was limited to a meeting with the assistant president.

The sources revealed that the meeting was characterized with honesty and transparency regarding the internal situation in Lebanon, the region, and the "Israeli" threats against Lebanon and Syria.
Jumblatt stressed during the meeting his ultimate support to Syria in the face off any violation it is exposed to.

He assured that this choice is essential to him, because if Syria was targeted for any reason, the Arab world, starting from Lebanon, cannot but stand by the Syrian leadership during this sensitive period the region is facing.

On the internal level, General Nassif informed Jumlatt about the Syrian satisfaction with his stances in internal Lebanese issues; and that president Al Assad regards this performance positively.

Nassif noted that this situation is not strange, when looking at Jumblatt's historical relation with the Syrian leadership.

In the same field, head of the Socialist Progressive Party and the Syrian leadership agreed on intensifying their communications and meetings, for the sake of establishing real cooperation between the two countries, regarding internal and regional issues.
