Berri: ’’March 14’’ To Suffer A Long Wait on The Syrian Sidewalk
Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri uncovered that the real reason for the "March 14"escalating campaign against him goes back to his position from the Syrian events."
In an interview with "as-Safir" daily Tuesday, Berri stressed that "all political attacks against them will not make him waive his convictions."
"Those who expect a fall of the Syrian regime tomorrow or after tomorrow, and link their internal political strategy to this bet, will discover sooner or later they will suffer a long wait on the sidewalk," he pointed out.
Calling the opposition to join the national dialogue proposed by President Michel Suleiman, Berri said that "If they are concerned about the truth and the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), they should participate again in the national dialogue; maybe we could then reach a mutual vision on how to deal with the STL."
"For those who consider that the national dialogue has nothing to do with the tribunal, I need to remind them that the STL was approved in the national dialogue by all political parties... before it became a debated matter," the House Speaker stressed.
Commenting on the STL funding Berri said that "it is too early since we still have
more than one month until the deadline on the issue."
"We have other urgent files that need to be addressed such as the electricity file, which is of an interest to every Lebanese citizen and the oil file," Berri added.
"The "Israeli" enemy uses military arsenal to defend what is not really its oil wells in the sea, while we are dealing recklessly with what is right for us," House Speaker noted.
Clarifying that Lebanon's problem is that "the governing majority does not know how to rule and the opposition does not know how to oppose," he emphasized that "the government gives the impression that it includes opposition and governing parties together."
Berri stressed to "as-Safir" addressed "March 14" campaign against the Lebanese army, saying that "if someone has comments on performance of some army officers, the assets require him to discuss these notes with General Jean Kahwaji in a closed room, not to proceed with the defamation of the military establishment as a whole."
