Opening Christian-Islamic Spiritual Summit, Qabbani Stresses Unity

"This meeting is historical and exceptional… and Dar al-Fatwa is for all of us,"he added.
Lebanese Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani stressed Tuesday on "unity between Christians and Muslims to safeguard their existence and future."
Addressing the participants at the Christian-Islamic spiritual summit in Dar al-Fatwa, Qabbani said that "this place witnessed co-existence and unity among the Lebanese in the most difficult stage in the modern history of Lebanon."
"Neither Muslims nor Christians are seeking to harm each other in Lebanon and the Arab world," Qabbani added.
Emphasizing the importance of the "Taef Accord" against the "wars of strife that lasted many years," the Grand Mufti called that all of us move into affirming a new covenant among us in Lebanon and the Arab region ... and to dispel the concerns between us."
Vice President of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai, and Druze Leader Sheikh Naim Hassan joined the meeting.
