Russian Ambassador Affirms Stance Against STL Politicization

The Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin reaffirmed Russia's stance supporting the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), as it is has participated in funding it.

"We participated in funding it, but we are against politicizing the STL", Zasypkin further said in this regard.
Regarding the Hizbullah delegation visiting Moscow, Russian's Ambassador in Lebanon indicated that his country's parliament had invited this relegation a long time ago, stressing, "We consider it as an important event in the relations between Lebanon and Russia".

In an interview with an-Nahar Lebanese newspaper, Ambassador Zasypkin stated that the Hizbullah delegation will be discussing critical political "Middle East" issues with Russian officials.
In another context, Ambassador Zasypkin denounced any kind of foreign interference and adopting double standards, considering that freedom has limits and should not turn into chaos.

Zasypkin also called upon the international community to adopt a responsible stance to examine each and every event occurring in the Security Council.
Ambassador Zasypkin referred to the Libyan experience as "bad", expressing his country's concern of possible escalations of the situation to cause civil war.
Furthermore, he neglected fear of any "Arab Spring" repercussions expansion into the borders of Russia.

On another hand, the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon called upon Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to accelerate reforms, noting that the operation is incomplete and should be activated.
He added, "We are waiting for Damascus's response regarding the Arab initiative".
