The "Israeli" Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) is expected to issue its annual report for the year 2011 by next week.

On this level, "Israeli" Daily Yedioth Ahronoth published on Friday extracts from the said report, indicating that ""Israel" is moving in a severely regressing path that refers to an almost unprecedented fallback in its strategic status".
The Zionist daily referred to the report as the "most melancholic and threatening since the institute started issuing annual reports in 1983".

Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the report's contents saying that "an additional marked deterioration occurred during the past year regarding "Israel's" strategic status", which led to a significant "increase in the challenges faced by the country, in light of the government's failure to develop an effective political work strategy designed to cool the areas of tension".
Furthermore, the "Israeli" INSS report warned against devoting the "ever-increasing international isolation around "Israel", due to the Palestinian diplomacy drive, which is receiving significant advocacy and support".

Moreover, the report noted the continuous "de-legitimization" that leads to a significant deterioration in "Israel's" political position and to severe restrictions on the freedom of the "Israeli" army in its operations.
On another hand, the report indicated that the "weak US position in the Middle East, and the disrupted relations between US President Barack Obama's administration, and "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, seize from "Israel" a key ingredient of its deterrent image".

"Israel's" INSS indicated in its report that this situation enables other sides to try and play a role in the Middle East that does not serve the interests of "Israel".
Also, according to Yedioth Ahronoth, the "Israeli" report stated there is "lack of progress in efforts to curb Iran's nuclear project".
It further warned against the growing threat that some countries in the region would move into the nuclear path in this regard.

Regarding the "Israeli" status in seeking change, the report highly criticized the enemy government, recommending it to decide between pending, indecisiveness, lack of initiative, and seeking influence in the strategic atmosphere.
Furthermore, it stressed that the enemy government should take an initiative in the Palestinian-"Israeli" peace dialogue, however, the report added that an "Israeli" initiative for a settlement shouldn't necessarily solve all the causes of the "Israeli"-Palestinian conflict.

"In the upcoming years, "Israel" will need to make decisions regarding its national security; in light of a very complex reality", the report reiterated.
Director of the INSS, Oded Eran, described the nature of the aforementioned reality as the great gap emerging in the Middle East, and it's caused by three factors that are, "the Arab Spring, the collapse of the "Israeli"-Arab Peace Process, and the US extreme vulnerability".
