Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri stressed Wednesday that he adheres to re-launching and reviving dialogue under the auspices of President Michel Suleiman.

In an interview with "an-Nahar" Lebanese newspaper, Berri noted that "we are in desperate need for this dialogue between the Lebanese parties especially during the developments in the region and the neighboring countries."

Reporting that Berri is expected to hold a meeting Wednesday with Suleiman at Baabda palace to discuss the possibility of the resumption of the dialogue between Lebanese parties, the daily quoted House Speaker as wondering: "Is it logical that I reject dialogue when I am the one who called for it?"

"No one will be happy if developments turn for the worst in Syria. We have to study every step in order to strengthen our country and protect it from regional events," Berri explained.

For its part, "as-Safir" daily quoted Berri commenting on the Syrian developments by advising "those people who bet on the toppling of the Syrian regime to reconsider their positions and not to engage themselves and Lebanon in false bets."
