Nine Palestinians martyred in strikes

GAZA STRIP -Nine members of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas were martyred in separate attacks by the "Israeli" occupying regime on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
Six of the Hamas men were martyred in an airstrike on a security post in southern Gaza town of Khan Yunis and two other armed members of the movement were shot dead by "Israeli" soldiers near the border with Egypt.
"Israeli" sonic booms shook windows in Gaza City, fraying nerves and raising fears of an intensive "Israeli" military campaign in retaliation for Monday's bombing in the desert town of Dimona by Palestinian activists.
Medics said six fighters from the Palestinian Islamic movement were killed and Hamas-run television said they were praying at the time.
An "Israeli" army spokesman confirmed the incident.
A senior member of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's party, Tzachi Hanegbi, also urged the "Israeli" government to step up its fight against Hamas by assassinating the group's political leaders.
"Israel" was on high alert after a bombing on Monday in the southern desert town of Dimona which killed a woman and wounded nearly a dozen other people, in the first such attack since January 2007.
The bombing came just two months after "Israel" and the Palestinians revived their alleged peace process, raising fears that the already troubled talks could be further bogged down.
Negotiations have already stalled because of deep discord on the core issues of the conflict, including Palestinian refugees, Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and the status of holy Al-Quds.
