TEHRAN--Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said here on Friday that the IAEA's Iran report on Friday nullified western claim over the country's peaceful nuclear program.
Addressing a press conference, Jalili said the IAEA report proved the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
"This was another official document proving the righteousness of Iran's claims that all our nuclear projects are solely peaceful," Jalili said in initial reaction from Tehran to the IAEA report.
He congratulated Iranians over the victory gained by the IAEA's positive Iran report and said the success is due to the nation's resistance and perseverance.
He said the country owes the achievement to the nation's perseverance. "Iranian nation showed that it can be a good model for other nations in defending what it considers as its right."
Jalili said the latest UN nuclear watchdog report into Iran's nuclear program proves the legitimacy of its position in the crisis and that its assurances have been correct.
"The report published today is new proof of the legitimacy of the position of the Islamic republic and the reality of the declarations by Iran," Jalili declared.
Jalili referred to three powerful states, without naming them, that issued a statement before release of the IAEA Chief's report, raising 11-page questions on P1 and P2 centrifuges.
"That was a foolish move, facing international reaction. These efforts are futile. It will be to their benefit to set aside the confrontation method," Jalili told a press conference shortly after release of the IAEA report on Iran.
He added "now Iran's nuclear case will turn into an ordinary case at the IAEA following ElBaradei's Friday report."
He added that Iran is determined to continue cooperation with the IAEA within the NPT framework.
The UN atomic watchdog announced in a report on Friday that it had made good progress in its investigation into Iran's nuclear drive.
"In the last four months, in particular, we have made quite good progress in clarifying the outstanding issues that had to do with Iran's past nuclear activities," the IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei said Friday after the publication of his latest report on Iran.
ElBaradei urged Tehran to implement an accord allowing for detailed, unannounced inspections of nuclear facilities.
"Iran in the last few months has provided us with visits to many places, that enable us to have a clearer picture of Iran's current program," he said.
Asked to comment on the US President George W. Bush reaction to the IAEA Iran report, Jalili said the US approach has thus far been wrong towards Iran and Americans favor change as their upcoming presidential elections candidates say in their campaigns.
Iran's top nuclear negotiator said Iran's talks with US on Iraq had been in favor of Iraqis.
Jalili said Iran has held three rounds of talks with the US on Iraq with an aim to improve conditions in the country.
