Kuwaiti Authorities Arrest Five Nationals
Souce: Nowlwbanon, March 10, 2008
Kuwaiti authorities arrested yesterday two former MPs, Abdul Mohsen Jamal and Nasser Sarkhouh, and three activists from the Shia minority in Kuwait on charges of belonging to Kuwaiti Hezbollah, which is suspected of having links with Hizbullah in Lebanon.
According to one of the detainees' lawyers, the Kuwaiti police also arrested a prominent Shia leader, Sheikh Hussein Al-Maatouk, who is supposed to appear in front of the public prosecutor in the coming hours.
Yesterday, hundreds of Kuwaiti Shia gathered in front of the Intelligence Services building where Maatouk is being held.
The demonstration was brought to an end peacefully after hundreds of Kuwaiti Special Forces troops intervened.
No charges have been raised against the detainees, whose arrest comes three weeks after the commemoration of the assassination of Lebanese Hezbollah security chief Imad Moghniyeh.
