US Presidential Candidate Trump: KSA in Big Trouble
Local Editor
Billionaire and potential US Presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he's "not a big fan" of Saudi Arabia.
In the latest of his controversial comments, the sixty-nine-year-old tycoon said in a lengthy interview on NBC's Meet the Press that not only is he not a fan of the Kingdom, but the US has paid too much to "back them up".
"The primary reason we're with Saudi Arabia is because we need the oil," Trump said. "Now we don't need the oil so much, and if we let our people really go, we wouldn't need the oil at all and we could let everybody else fight it out."
His most recent comments are quite similar to what he said when he announced his candidacy for the Presidential nomination, when he said Saudi Arabia is in "big, big trouble" as a result of its staunch policy on oil production.
In the NBC interview, which aired over the weekend, Trump said Saudi Arabia was going to need assistance with its military campaign in Yemen.
"Saudi Arabia is going to be in big trouble pretty soon and they're going to need help, because if you look at Yemen and you look at that border, you don't have to be an expert to know that is one long border, and they're not going in for Yemen, they're going in for the oil, they're going in for Saudi Arabia, so Saudi Arabia is going to need help," Trump said in the US television interview.
He also said that he would honor the Iran nuclear deal. "It's tough to say 'rip up the deal' because I'm a deal person," he said.
"I would have told them up front you'll never get your $150 billion back. They are going to be such a wealthy, such a powerful nation, they're going to have nuclear weapons. They are going to take over parts of the world that you wouldn't believe. And I think it's going to lead to nuclear holocaust.
"And I will say this, the people that negotiated that deal, namely Kerry and his friends, are incompetent."
In the fight against "ISIL", Trump said it was important to tackle their source of income.
"You take away their wealth," he said. "You go and knock the hell out of the oil. Take back the oil."
