Bibi Addresses Threats to «Israel» in First Meeting as War Minister
Local Editor
For the first time since appointing himself war minister, “Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the army’s headquarter in Tel Aviv on Thursday where he touched on security threats from Gaza, the West Bank and Syria and Lebanon.
Netanyahu, who appointed himself war minister on Sunday after Avigdor Lieberman resigned from the position, said the “Israeli” army has a common mission to maintain security in all arenas.
“In the first arena, Gaza, we are prepared to act and do whatever is necessary in order to preserve the security of the residents of the vicinity and the south,” Netanyahu said.
Last week, 48 hours intense fighting between “Israel’s” Occupation Forces (IOF) and Hamas in Gaza ended with a ceasefire mediated by Egypt.
Although the security cabinet unanimously approved of accepting a ceasefire with Hamas, both Lieberman and Education Minister criticized the decision afterwards.
The following day, Lieberman resigned over the ceasefire with Hamas, describing it as a "capitulation to terror".
"What happened yesterday -- the truce combined with the process with Hamas -- is capitulating to terror. It has no other meaning. What we're doing now as a state is buying short-term quiet, with the price being severe long-term damage to national security," Lieberman said.
During his meeting with the IOF General Staff, Netanyahu spoke of the army’s efforts to provide maintain security in the occupied West Bank.
“The third arena, the north, Syria and Lebanon. We continue to act to prevent Iran's military buildup in Syria and Hezbollah's precision weapons project in Lebanon,” Netanyahu concluded.
In September, the “Israeli” army admitted that it has carried out more than 200 airstrikes in Syria over the last year, many of which entity claimed were targeting Iranian positions and weapons convoys.
