Salim Aoun: ISF΄s Information Branch financed Fatah al-Islam
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 30-9-2008
Change and Reform bloc MP Salim Aoun told NEW TV on Tuesday that the Lebanese people should work independently because there was no military or state authority in Lebanon.
Aoun accused the Information Branch, the ISF's intelligence unit, of using its authority to support certain parties, and also accused it of following Free Patriotic Movement supporters.
Aoun said that the Future Movement financed the Information Branch, which he said in turn financed the Islamist organization Fatah al-Islam.
He added that the Nahr al-Bared war was not included in the investigations of the Special Tribunal, which focus on the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, due to political reasons, despite also being a "big crime."
Aoun said that the Future Movement was behind tensions between Sunnis and Shia.
He said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said nothing new when he mentioned that there were "terrorist organizations" in the North, and Aoun asked the Lebanese state to provide information regarding "terrorist factions" in Lebanon.
"I am not accusing the Future Movement of being responsible for the explosions, but improper behavior leads to these issues, and political stupidity might pave the way for an international agreement to send foreign forces [into Lebanon] in order to confront terrorism," he said.
