Mishaal: Our people are capable of launching a 3rd and a 4th Intifada
Source: PIC, 15-12-2007
GAZA- Khaled Mishaal, the Hamas political office chief, said: "Who ever thinks that Hamas is in a dilemma is mistaken, we are full of stamina [...] Who ever think international support gives legitimacy is also mistaken, it is the people who give legitimacy"
Mishaal made these statements during a televised address on Friday evening to the Palestinian people to mark the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.
He said that Hamas' decision is independent and based on national interests rather than serving foreign agendas and that Hamas supports Palestinian independent decisions without Zionist or American interference and without severing the Palestinian issue from its Arab or Islamic depth.
He further said that the true problem for the Palestinian cause and the internal rift is foreign interference, adding that in the interest of the homeland, Palestinians must unite describing the internal state as "lamentable" and saying that this must change.
"On this anniversary we remember our great leaders who sacrificed all they had for the sake of Palestine, our martyrs, our wounded and our captives," he said pointing out that what makes this anniversary special is not the fact that it is the 20th anniversary but the fact that it comes at extremely hard times for the Palestinian people; "a painful [internal] Palestinian situation, the siege on Gaza and collective punishment, daily killing [of Palestinians] with American arms and the suffering of our people in the occupied West Bank."
He said that Hamas has reinstated the option of resistance after many conspired against the Palestinian resistance and the fighters were dispersed to different Arab countries [referring to the 1982 events] and many Palestinians concentrated on the option of peace talks.
"Hamas left a unique impression on the outbreak of the first and the second intifada, which we managed along with all other factions [for those intifadas] to remain landmarks in the Palestinian history," he said adding: "Our people are capable of launching a third and a fourth intifada until the dawn of freedom breaks."
He said that Hamas and the Palestinian resistance in general played an important role in preventing [the Palestinian negotiator] from falling into the trap of endless compromises of Palestinian rights and provided a practical model of how we can be together and offer alternatives.
He pointed out that Hamas gave a good example of a moderate Islamic movement that has balanced the nationalistic with the religious and managed to have good relations with all Palestinian people and is proud of its relations with others.
On the Annapolis conference he said that it was no more that a cover to intensify the aggression against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip calling for an end to the siege imposed on the Palestinians.
