Syrian FM: Some Lebanese also responsible for missing persons
Source: NowLebanon, 04-12-2008
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said, during his meeting with Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun and the Lebanese delegation on Wednesday, that solving the issue of the Lebanese detained and missing in Syrian prisons needed a comprehensive Lebanese reconciliation.
This was, he said, because some Lebanese parties, which he added participated in the civil war, were also responsible for this issue.
He added that some committees were in charge of working on the issue and expressed his country's readiness to close this file positively through making more efforts and expanding the committees' work.
He pointed out to the difference between the missing persons and the detainees and called on Lebanese authorities to sign the Riyadh Treaty or sign a joint treaty with Syria to follow up this issue.
He said that Syria will not return to Lebanon under any circumstances because it "is convinced that forging good and equal relations is better than domination."
