MP Aoun From Syria: These are Glorious Days
Source: Al-Manar TV, 06-12-2008
Lebanese MP General Michel Aoun's visit to Syria continues for the fourth day Saturday.
On Friday, Aoun paid a visit to the 1500 year-old Our Lady of Sednaya Monastery just outside Damascus where he was received with popular celebrations by Muslims and Christians alike. Aoun took part in prayers at the Church and then heads to the Saint Sarkis and Bakhos Church where he was briefed of the historic monument be Cardinal Toufik Eid. The General's final visit was to the city of Homs where Aoun and his delegation set foot through the streets and met with figures representing Muslims and Christians. "We are witnessing today and as we witnessed yesterday and the day before glorious days in the history of establishing this new era between the Lebanese and the Syrians," Aoun said.
For his part MP Abbas Hashem, who is accompanying Aoun, told Al-Manar that the visit comes to establish the culture of understanding and the principle of interaction as an alternative to unilateral vengeance and subordination. Hashem pointed out that General Aoun "has been able to eliminate the "ideology of enmity" between the people. The Change and Reform Parliamentary bloc member also criticized those who have been launching campaigns against Aoun saying that "they have been in Syria before but with an absent will whereas the General comes here today with a unique will and therefore he finds that the Syrian brothers on top of which is President Bashar Assad are very positive regarding Lebanon's independence and complete sovereignty. What's more important is that the same fate and path are what mobilize the peoples to face perils."
