Former MP Nasser Qandil held a press conference on Thursday and criticized Democratic Gathering bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt, who, he said was still living in the memory of the 1860s war seeking to cleanse Mount Lebanon from any Christian presence.
He added that Jumblatt attacked Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun's visit to Damascus by attacking Syria in his last speech.
He also said that the most important factor in Aoun's visit was that it occurred before the parliamentary elections in 2009 because Christian voters would be able to define the destiny of the bilateral relations.
He added if the opposition wins, it will ensure openness toward Damascus but if the majority wins, the borders would be closed.
He called for keeping the discussions on Palestinian weapons outside refugee camps and the opening of the Palestinian embassy in Lebanon on hold until factions reach agreement because Lebanon should not support any one group against another.
