Iranian ambassador Mohammad Rida Shibani said during a meeting with Marada leader Suleiman Franjieh at his residence in Bnachii on Thursday that President Michel Suleiman's earlier visit to Iran was a positive move, adding that Lebanese-Iranian talks tackled political, economic and defense issues. Shibani hoped the signed protocols between Lebanon and Iran would be implemented soon.
Shibani said that Iran was firm on supporting Lebanon in all fields, adding that the Russian jet fighters given to the LAF "came within the framework of the Islamic Republic of Iran's general vision in strengthening the army against the "Israeli" threats and dangers. We consider this a positive initiative."
He also said that Iran had officially announced that there was a military Lebanese-Iranian cooperation protocol between the two "sister" states, and according to this protocol, Iran was ready to offer any aid or defense support to Lebanon. Shibani said he hoped the defense protocol would be implemented, assuring it would bring about positive results.
