A reconciliation meeting was held on Sunday in the village of Kfarhim in the Chouf caza on Sunday in response to recent clashes between PSP supporters and bodyguards of Tawhid, or Unification, Movement leader and former Minister Wiam Wahhab. A number of Sheikhs, officials, and residents attended the meeting, as well as a delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party led by party official Dr Nasser Zeidan, and a delegation from the Unification Movement led by Suleiman al-Sayegh.
Zeidan said that the political dispute should remain within a legitimate framework and should not disrupt relations between people.
Sayegh said that the incident was now in the past and said he hoped that political discussions would be civilized. He said that the incident had been rejected and the Unification Movement would uncover any person who undermined security in the Mountain. He said that his movement highly appreciated the position of PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt and his statement that said the state was the only source of security and judicial authority.
