Biden: US Will Never Abandon ’Israel’
Local Editor
US Vice President Joe Biden said that the United States will never abandon the Zionist entity, at the Zionist Federations of North America General Assembly on Monday.
"Were there not an "Israel", the US would have to invent one. We will never abandon "Israel" - out of our own self-interest," Biden said.
The US supports "Israel" with $8.5 million per day, he noted.
"With all the chitter-chatter out there, the US' commitment to "Israel's" security remains iron-clad," he added.
Nearly two weeks after a senior Obama administration official called
"Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "a coward" in an interview
with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, Biden attempted to play down the
scuffles that have characterized the leaders' relationship in recent
months.
"We really are good friends," Biden said of their relationship. "He has been a great, great friend."
The relationship between the US and "Israel" has also been tenuous for some time, exacerbated by the Obama administration's attempts to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran.
Also, their relations have been
strained over "Israel's" settlement projects. Recently last month
[October], the United States criticized "Israel's" plan to build more
than 1,000 settler units in the occupied Palestinian lands.
