Two Ferguson Police Officers Shot in US
Local Editor
Two US police officers have been shot outside the Ferguson Police Department during protests against the police force.
The officers were taken to a nearby hospital in Ferguson, Missouri. One of the officers was shot in the face and the other was shot in the shoulder.
According to reports, the shots were fired from a house on a hill across from the police station.
The demonstration was held following the resignation of Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson.
The police shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown by white officer Darren Wilson in August and a grand jury's decision not to indict the officer in November sparked nationwide protests.
The incident also resulted to the report released by the Justice Department.
According to the report, the Ferguson police created fear and resentment among African-American residents by disproportionately targeting them with fines, tickets and excessive force.
US Attorney General Eric Holder said the Ferguson Police Department was creating "a highly toxic environment" in the city.
Last week, President Barack Obama blasted the city's police for being "systematically biased against African-Americans."
