Raad visits Aoun: We are preparing for 2009 Elections ~ Hariri and Nasrallah will meet soon
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 7-10-2008
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc leader MP Mohammad Raad visited Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh on Tuesday, and said that they had moved beyond the electoral law and were now preparing for the 2009 elections. Raad was accompanied by MPs Hussein al-Hajj Hassan, Amin Cherri, Nawwar al-Saheli and Hizbullah official Ghaleb Abu Zeinab.
After the meeting, Raad said, "Tomorrow [on Wednesday] there will be discussion on the Constitutional Council, and the clear and unified reading we have [on how the council should be formed] must be applied." Raad added that "we think it is crucial to speed up the formation of the council, and there should be remarks on the essential amendments that need to be taken into consideration."
Raad said that Hizbullah was keen to maintain a unified reading of events and developments with the Free Patriotic Movement. He said the meeting with Aoun was intended to discuss domestic, regional and international positions, as well as many other political, electoral, administrative and reform issues.
Raad said that the much anticipated meeting between Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri would take place soon, and was up to those involved to choose exactly when.
Raad also said that there was nothing "significant" or "extraordinary" about Syria's deployment of troops along Lebanon's northern borders, a move, he described as "a domestic security military practice which does not justify all the fears that have been expressed." Raad added that those worried about the deployment had originally "been afraid without troops."
