Higher Shia Islamic council rejects American insult against Lebanese Army
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 9-10-2008
The Higher Shia Islamic Council called for working to purify Arab relations and questioned "the continuous silence toward "Israeli" threats against Lebanon and its army."
After the council met on Thursday, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan condemned the Damascus bombing and the "attack against the Lebanese army" in last month's Tripoli blast. He said that both "crimes had terrorism traits."
The council also condemned American interference in Lebanese domestic affairs, saying that the US was the source of all tensions. The council rejected "the insult against the Lebanese army from the Americans by offering used cars under the pretense of armament, at a time when it [US] refrains from offering essential weapons to defend the nation's sovereignty, and to confront continuous "Israeli" attacks on the land and population; while it offers the most advanced weapons to the "Israeli" enemy, which attacks Lebanon in violation of international law."
The council also said that it supported current reconciliation efforts, which, it said, should be maintained and reinforced.
