Iranian ambassador: Aoun΄s Iran visit will bolster bilateral relations
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 11-10-2008
Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Riza Shibani said the Islamic Republic held Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun in high regard and considered him a prominent Lebanese political figure.
Speaking after a meeting with Aoun at Rabiyeh on Saturday, Shibani said the pair had discussed Aoun's upcoming visit to Iran.
Shibani said Aoun would undertake a "tour that will enable Aoun to realize, in a direct and relevant way, the high and respectable status of the Christian brethren in Iran."
He added that Aoun's visit to Tehran would "bolster ties between Iran and Lebanon."
Shibani stressed that Aoun's visit was not meant to strengthen Aoun's position before the upcoming 2009 parliamentary elections.
