Nicolas: Criticism of Aoun΄s visit to Tehran were designed to misled public opinion
Source: Nowlebano.com, 14-10-2008
Change and Reform bloc MP Nabil Nicolas said that criticisms of MP Michel Aoun's visit to Tehran were designed to mislead public opinion and to exploit the situation for political ends.
He was not, he said, surprised by the criticism, and said that some of it was hypocritical; for example, Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel has in the past met with an Iranian delegation.
He denied that this visit came after several invitations and said that it was not aimed to be a response, as some claimed, to the visit of Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Hale who recently met with every major political leader except MP Aoun.
He called on Saudi Arabia to consider all Lebanese people and parties equal and called for implementing the amendments of Taif Agreement, which he said, it reduced the president's authorities, strengthened the prime minister's role and increased divisions among the people.
