Berri: Lebanese consensus can achieve miracles
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 15-10-2008
Speaker Nabih Berri said on Wednesday, after meeting with President Michel Sleiman at the presidential palace in Baabda, that the exchange of diplomatic ties between Lebanon and Syria was a very important step.
He added that this decision occurred as a result of electing President Michel Suleiman and the establishment of a national unity cabinet, reminding those present that it was adopted in the national dialogue in 2006.
"This is the strongest evidence that Lebanese consensus could achieve miracles and should always be encouraged," he said.
He added that there was no problem in the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.
He also said that the president emphasized that Lebanon's relation with any Arab state should be good.
He said that Tuesday's parliamentary session will discuss the Constitutional Council law if the Justice and Administration Commission have completed it.
"Lebanon is in a springtime period," he said.
He added that while some considered the cabinet a holding one until the parliamentary elections, he said, "it could be foundational if the Lebanese people wanted it to be."
He called for implementing what had been already agreed on concerning the Palestinian issue because "nothing new was required."
He also said that reconciliations have been achieved, and that further bilateral meetings have happened as a result.
