Fneish: Domestic political developments reflect Lebanese-Syrian relations
Source: nowlebanon.com, 19-10-2008
Labor Minister Mohammad Fneish said that domestic political developments reflected relations with Syria. He said that the decision to establish Lebanese-Syrian diplomatic ties and to exchange embassies was a very important development toward the normalization of relations and the removal of all doubts and fears.
During a ceremony in the southern village of al-Bazourieh on Sunday, Fneish said that Lebanon's economy, security, and politics required firm relations with Syria. He said that Syria needed firm
relation with Lebanon to guarantee common interests, and to face ‘Israeli' challenges and dangers.
"Experience has proved that supporting each other contributed to giving the Resistance power, through which it was able to change the balance [of power] in Lebanon and the region," he said.
Fneish also attended a graduation ceremony in the southern village of Qana where he said that the series of recent explosions in Lebanon were intended to keep the country in a state of tension, which increased the responsibility of political forces to uphold dialogue and calm.
Fneish said that much had been achieved amid the atmosphere of reconciliation, in which tensions had been reduced. He said that after the adoption of the 2009 electoral law, and once the parliament adopts the draft law on the formation of the Constitutional Council, the country would be ready to undertake elections within an atmosphere of calm and dialogue.
