Moussawi: Making political disputes sectarian undermines national unity
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 24-10-2008
Hizbullah International Affairs Officer Nawwaf Moussawi said that giving "a confessional or sectarian element to political disputes undermines national unity, national security and stability." He added that "sectarian strife not only threatened national peace but the unity and safety of the neighboring nations as well."
After meeting with Turkish ambassador Serdar Kiliç on Friday, Moussawi said it was critical to support all initiatives intended to stop sectarian strife, while encouraging Lebanese political forces to control tensions, limit political disputes to the constitutional institutions. Also important, he said, was the regulation of political disputes so as to prevent regional and international conflicts, maintaining healthy Arab relations and fostering understanding that would lead to a minimum level of Arab solidarity.
He said it was crucial that "policies of invasion and occupation that come along with the policy of division" be resisted. Such resistance demanded the establishment of national unity, partnership between the followers of one religion and avoiding accusations and "‘takfir' speech."
