Who is Mustafa Nasser?
For some people, the name of Mustafa Nasser, who attended the summit meeting between Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Future Movement MP Saad Hariri, is not familiar.
However, for those who know Nasser, the name was sufficient to understand how the much-awaited meeting was finally achieved.
For long years, Mustafa Nasser had a major role in managing the relation between Hariri's family since the day of former Prime Minister late Rafik Hariri, the father of the Future movement MP Saad Hariri, and the Resistance leadership.
Mustafa Nasser, the journalist who was able to gain the confidence of martyr Rafik Hariri and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, used to take part in their private meetings for long years. However, the details and the secrets of such sessions were always kept, even after Hariri's martyrdom.
On Sunday, history repeated itself...
Nasser took part in an exclusive and much-awaited meeting between Sayyed Nasrallah and this time, Hariri's son, Saad. Press reports said that Nasser, knowing the special relation that used to join Sayyed Nasrallah and Hariri the father, played the major role in organizing the meeting and transforming it from a Lebanese national wish into a reality.
Mustafa Nasser spoke to Al-Manar about the meeting. He expressed his satisfaction with the general atmosphere of the meeting, describing it as positive. "Their last meeting between Sunday's one was five days ahead of the 2006 July war against Lebanon," he recalled. "But I really didn't feel they haven't met for so long," he asserted, adding that "when they entered, it seemed that they had a meeting yesterday, it was difficult to believe that they didn't held any meeting since two years and a half!"
Nasser said the meeting was successful, explaining that many factors contributed to achieve this success. "First of all, both leaders were convinced of its necessity. Second, the meeting was well-prepared. Moreover, one of the main success factors was that the meeting put an end to the so-called isolations that was widely adopted in the Lebanese politics lately."
Nasser praised Sayyed Nasrallah and Hariri's behavior during the meeting, revealing that both leaders were so affectionate, friendly, and warm. "We might hesitate to reveal it but the way both of them were exchanging jokes was really eye-catching," Nasser stressed.
The "common friend" also denied the information circulated in Lebanese and Arab dailies pertaining to the meeting's place. "No one really knows where the meeting was held," he said.
"Even myself, I don't really know where the meeting has taken place," he asserted, adding that Sayyed Nasrallah and MP Hariri were guests on a meeting in a meeting they have agreed upon ahead of time.
Nasser quoted Hariri as telling Sayyed Nasrallah about the actual reasons of his trip to Saudi Arabia, finding the media claims about seeking to obtain a Saudi permission strange. "Hariri had a real serious family case," Nasser told Al-Manar, stressing that both leaders were not in need of a regional or international permission to meet. "They know their responsibilities very well and they are thinking of the country's interest before anything else," Nasser said.
"During dialogue, everything came to be obvious," he highlighted. "It's true that there are differences in the views of both leaders, but the most important thing is that they were united in opinion over the major and essential issues," he pointed out.
Nasser announced that the summit meeting between Sayyed Nasrallah and MP Hariri wouldn't be single. It would be followed by other meetings and steps to consolidate national unity and prevent sedition. He stressed that the meetings between both leaders wouldn't hurt any local side, recalling that Hariri and Sayyed Nasrallah will stick to their political allies.
Nasser also revealed to Al-Manar the mass of internal and external calls he has received following the meeting, congratulating Lebanese for its completion as a necessity for stability in Lebanon.
