Moussawi reveals Mognieh assassination investigation "clear," rejects amendment of UNIFIL role
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 1-11-2008
Hizbullah's International Relations Officer, Nawwaf Moussawi, has said the investigation into the assassination of top party operative Imad Mognieh had become "clear," adding that "the announcement of the results is not helpful at the present time."
In an interview with the Al-Balad daily, Moussawi said revenge for the death of Mognieh, who was assassinated in Damascus in February, was "inevitable."
The exaggeration of the threat of daily targeting of "Israeli" leaders by Hizbullah was "part of ["Israel's"] psychological warfare," he added. "We meet these threats firmly and responsibly and are fully aware of "Israel's" limited ability to act."
"As for the assassinations, they have happened before and may happen in the future. Ending this requires deterrence, as mentioned by our secretary general, and this is what he was talking about in terms of revenge for the great commander Hajj Imad Mognieh, to prevent future assassinations," he added.
Moussawi confirmed that meetings between Hizbullah and the Future Movement would continue and they would work to find possible measures to control tension in the streets.
With regard to the upcoming national dialogue, which is scheduled for November 5, Moussawi said, "We have come back to the negotiating table. We are open to all bids."
Moussawi said he rejected amending the role of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon and emphasized Hizbullah's commitment to Security Council Resolution 1701. The Hizbullah official called on the international community to assume its responsibilities toward "Israeli" violations of Lebanese airspace and the breaching of UN Resolution 1701.
"Two years after the adoption of Resolution 1701, political efforts have not been able to remove "Israelis" from the Lebanese part of Ghajar. How, then, in the case of the Shibaa Farms, which "Israeli" says it has sovereign claims to?" he said.
